Graduate / Undergraduate FAQs

Once you complete your application (including resume, cover letter and your academic transcript), it will be reviewed by our Careers team and considered for shortlisting.

If you are shortlisted, you will have a pre-screening discussion either in-person or on the phone with our Careers team.

The final stage will be an interview with a hiring manager in relevant fields to your line of study. These will be conducted in-person or online as required.

The program commences annually depending upon type of project. You will undertake a comprehensive induction hosted in one of our office locations in Tasmania.

Candidates with degrees from Australian Universities only relevant to the role will be considered

Graduate programs run for approximately two years. Undergraduate programs are approximately 12 weeks.

Yes, however, you must have either Permanent Residency or a VISA with full time working rights that is valid for the duration of the program, with degree completion at an Australian university.

Sorry, no.

We are unable to provide assistance for these roles.

All graduate roles are permanent positions. We are committed to supporting your career development and will work with you closely through the program to identify the area of the business your ongoing position will be at the end of your program.

Undergraduate roles are short term placement which may lead to future opportunities.

Address your cover letter to 'The hiring manager at Hazell Bros'.

The interview will be with experienced stakeholders currently working in your relevant discipline.

We understand that you are likely beginning your career, so things we are looking for in the chat include:

  • Why you are getting into the industry
  • How your values align with ours, and
  • How an opportunity at Hazell Bros benefits us both.

We aren’t just there to test your interview skills!

As part of our process, we will conduct some background checks, which include references, working rights check, and a medical assessment. Medical assessments are conducted for both Graduate and Undergraduate roles.

All costs associated with these checks are covered by us. We ask that you please complete all steps as soon as possible, as we are unable to make our final decision until all checks are finalised.

This business supports rotations as part of the Graduate and Undergraduate program into other areas outside civil infrastructure as part of your development and learning.

For graduates, additional core training activities are also scheduled as part of the program to support the development of self-awareness and interpersonal skills.

Rotations are dependent on your background and the current projects taking place across the business. These will be offered in consultation with you and leaders within the business.

When and where available, you'll be given the opportunity to rotate through our business including our regional sites throughout Tasmania

Each year we participate in the Scholarship program at the University of Tasmania. Applicants are invited to apply and are shortlisted based on your responses to the questions we ask.

We then review the shortlist and conduct face-to-face chats with potential recipients and nominate those students for awarding a Hazell Bros Scholarship.

As part of the process, we are looking for people who we can take through to our Undergraduate program.

Successful applicants will be offered a paid placement for 3 months where they will receive on the job training across our various sites.
