Working at Hazell Bros

Hazell Bros' culture has developed from its family ownership, and as such, the culture is grounded in family and community values. Many Hazell Bros employees have worked with three generations of the founding family and subsequently have developed strong ties to, and care for the business and each other. These family values create a sense of ownership and belonging, and in a state like Tasmania, it is hard to find someone who hasn’t worked or knows somebody who has worked for the family.

The family culture developed in the local Tasmanian business has continued throughout other regions via the direct involvement of the owners in these businesses. Our work practices recognise that every family has its own challenges to deal with, and we provide support and flexibility to all employees, particularly in times of need, so they can in turn support their families in all aspects of their lives and have a sustainable work-life balance.

Employer of Choice

Hazell Bros is a recognised Tasmanian Government Employer of Choice and has been since this recognition was first established in 2008. Employers of Choice are recognised by the Tasmanian Government for demonstrating contemporary workplace practices and outstanding support for their staff and providing opportunities for employees to build an effective work-life balance.

Our 800-strong team of employees are the mainstay of the business and their diversity provides Hazell Bros with the skills to ensure we continually add value and exceed our clients’ expectations. Backed by our training and development programs, our people are committed to working safely and upholding the culture based on family values and initiative.

Our Commitment to Safety and Well-Being

There is nothing more important at Hazell Bros than having our workforce return home in a fit and healthy state at the end of every working day. "Safety 1st Always Works" is more than a slogan, it is the cornerstone of our safety culture.

Our employees are empowered and proactively encouraged to own safety and ensure safe outcomes through identifying hazards and managing risks. Key leaders of the business meet weekly at the Safety Forum to ensure emerging risks are managed and communicated across the whole business.

We also know caring for our employees' mental health is just as important as their physical health. Our Employee Assistance Program and Health & Well-being Program ensure all aspects of our employees’ well-being are cared for.

Employee Assistance Program (EAP)

Our Employee Assistance Program offers confidential, no-cost counselling to our employees and their family members. Expert counsellors are available to help with all of life’s challenges including stress management, relationship challenges and budgeting.
